On Wednesday, I went to UCI to check out another career fair. The EngiTECH career fair consisted of only engineering companies so it wasn’t as big as other career fairs. This was the first time that I saw friends of mine now recruiting for their companies. While it was a little embarrassing since I was still looking for a job, it might prove to be valuable since I know someone on the inside.
Today is Grey Tuesday. Over 200 websites are hosting DJ Danger Mouse’s Grey Album. The Grey Album is a remix of Jay-Z’s Black Album and The Beatles’ White Album. When Jay-Z released the The Black Album, he also released an acapella version to encourage DJs to create remixes of his work. And that’s what Mr. Danger Mouse did, using samples from The White Album. The end result turned out surprisingly good. So good that it created an enormous buzz online. The problem is he didn’t ask EMI, who owns the rights to The Beatles’ work, for permission to use the samples. Now EMI has sent cease and desist letters to all retailers and websites demanding they stop selling the album or remove the posting of mp3s online. Grey Tuesday is a protest towards all record labels that have stifled the release of legitimate recordings, such as The Grey Album. Learn more at greytuesday.org.
Has anyone else seen that Quizno’s ad with the two singing rodents? That has got to be the funniest shit I’ve seen in a long time. Your first reaction will be interest followed by shock followed by nonstop laughing. Go here to see the ad yourself. “They got a pepper bar!!!!”
I’m finally back from the Philippines, much to the delight of those who missed me. Hehe. For the most part, I had a wonderful time. I hung out with cousins I met only once before, or never met at all. I watched my cousin Arlyn get married. I ate a lot of Filipino food. And I took lots of pictures and have tons of stories to share. Once I get my pictures all organized, I’ll go into more detail about my trip. In the mean time, it’s GREAT to be back.
