★ Twitter

Recently everyone has had something to say about Twitter. I posted my first “twit” on December 1, 2006 and I’ve been more or less trying the thing out since then.

First the things I like about it. It’s ridiculously easy. Just a text box and you type in the answer to “what are you doing?” Simple enough. You can post or get updates from your phone through text, AIM, or on the web. If you have a SK3, you can do it all three ways. It’s supposed to be the “next big thing” and you know I’m a sucker for being an early adopter. 😉

Now the things that aren’t so great about it. It is absolutely NO fun if your friends aren’t on it. So far none of my friends are on it (that I know of). I’ve resorted to following interesting people I’ve found on the public timeline.

However, I think that is one of the things people like about it. As people get busier and busier, no one even has time to check other people’s blogs or MySpace pages. With Twitter, anyone can just post what they’re up to and everyone who chooses to follow immediately gets an update of what you’re doing via text, AIM, etc. Very unobtrusive.

I can see how this can turn into another one of those “away message” fads of my early college days where it was always a contest to see who could post the funniest/wittiest away message. Even that got fun after awhile. I can see myself getting addicted to this as soon as my other friends start to hear about it. In the meantime, you can follow me to see what I’m up to.
